Holy Saturday, often called Silent Saturday, is the day between Jesus’ crucifixion on Good Friday and His glorious resurrection on Easter Sunday. It’s a day of profound waiting—an invitation to pause, reflect, and hold onto hope for what is to come. During this time, Jesus’ body lay in the tomb while His followers mourned in silence, uncertain of what the future held. That silence speaks volumes—it reminds us that even in our darkest, most quiet moments, God’s divine plan is still moving forward. Psalm 27:14 encourages us: “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage.”

SATURDAY

Throughout Scripture, many have exemplified the power of waiting silently. Hannah, longing for a child, prayed in silence and trusted God’s timing (1 Samuel 1:10-20). Abraham and Sarah waited years for the fulfillment of God’s promise—Isaac (Genesis 21:1-7). In our own lives, countless believers face seasons of silent waiting—whether for healing, direction, or provision. And in these times, God reassures us: “I see you. I know your suffering. Darkness clouds your vision and threatens to drown your hope. But remember: I didn’t leave Christ in the grave, and I won’t leave you there either.”

Max Lucado captures this truth beautifully: “On Saturday, Jesus is silent. So is God. He made Himself heard on Friday—tearing the temple curtains, opening graves, rocking the earth, darkening the sky, and sacrificing His Son. Earth heard much of God on Friday. But on Saturday, there’s silence. Jesus is silent. God is silent. Saturday is silent.”

This silence is not abandonment; it’s a sacred space for faith to deepen and grow. Just as Jesus’ followers waited in hope, we are called to trust in God’s perfect, sovereign plan. And we can be confident—Easter Sunday’s victory is coming, bringing new life and the triumph over death.

Do you realize that nothing—absolutely nothing—can stop God’s divine purpose from unfolding? He is the Creator of all, the Sovereign Ruler over heaven and earth. No spiritual or human effort can manipulate what He has decreed. In Matthew 27:62-65, we see the story of Jesus’ burial, but beneath the surface, we witness a deliberate, strategic plan. The chief priests, Pharisees, and Pilate conspired to secure Jesus’ tomb, fearing His disciples might steal His body to claim He had risen. They requested guards and sealed the tomb with a massive stone—so heavy that it was like a vehicle. And even that couldn’t thwart God’s ultimate purpose.

I can only imagine the fear and sorrow that overwhelmed Jesus’ closest friends and family, witnessing everything fall apart. There was a tense human effort to control what seemed final—yet, God’s plan was unstoppable.

So how does this story speak to us today?

I believe “Saturday” has always been a day of waiting—both a moment of eager anticipation for Sunday and a time of quiet reflection, a pause from the heaviness of Good Friday. It’s a day to sit with grief, with doubt, or with hope—whatever your emotions may be. It’s okay to linger in the silence. In fact, it’s necessary. Suppressing grief or refusing to cling to hope only leaves emptiness inside. Filling that void with distractions or harmful pursuits only makes it worse.

Today, I want you to remember: you have purpose in Christ. It is His will for your life to live fully in Him—nothing more, nothing less. You don’t need anything else. As His children, we can rest in His sovereignty, knowing He is with us through every season. He sustains us, and in the end, He always has the final word. We’re not meant to carry every burden or control every outcome. All we need to do is trust in Jesus—who defeated sin and death—and rest in His perfect sovereignty today.

Because, in the silence of Saturday, faith is being forged. Hope is being renewed. And the promise of resurrection is just around the corner.

A Short Prayer for Silent Saturday

Dear Lord, thank You for this time of silence and reflection. Help me to trust in Your perfect plan, even when I don’t see what You’re doing. Remind me that You are in control, and nothing can stop Your purpose from unfolding.
Strengthen my faith to wait patiently, knowing that Easter victory is coming. Fill my heart with peace and hope in Your promises.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
