Isaiah 53 describes the suffering servant, “He was pierced for our transgressions,” foreshadowing Jesus’ crucifixion. Psalm 16:10 offers reassurance: “For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.” These scriptures hint at a future hope beyond death, setting the stage for the fulfillment in Christ.
The significance of Christ’s life extends beyond its historical impact; it marks a turning point in human history. The division of time into BC (Before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini, Latin for “In the Year of Our Lord”) underscores the centrality of Jesus in history. The BC era denotes the time before Jesus’ birth, while AD begins with His birth and continues to count the years thereafter. This division reflects that history itself is understood through the lens of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. It signals that the coming of Jesus altered the course of humanity, introducing a new era of salvation and divine relationship.
The New Testament vividly records the historic event. Matthew 28 recounts the angel’s proclamation: “He is not here; for He has risen, as He said.” This moment shattered despair and ignited hope among Jesus’ followers. The resurrection affirms Jesus’ divine identity—proof He is the Son of God—and validates His teachings. Apostle Paul emphasizes this in 1 Corinthians 15:20: “But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep,” guaranteeing believers’ future resurrection.
Understanding Death and the Resurrection
Scientifically, death is the cessation of biological functions—brain activity, heartbeat, and cellular processes. It marks the end of physical life, with the body eventually decomposing. For centuries, death was seen as the final end, a natural conclusion to life’s journey. However, Jesus’ resurrection defies this natural order. It introduces a new paradigm: that life can transcend physical death. His resurrection signifies that death is not the ultimate defeat but a transition to a new, eternal existence.
Christian scholar N. T. Wright states, “The resurrection is the event that turns the world upside down, revealing that God’s power over death is real and available to all who believe.” Similarly, C.S. Lewis noted, “Christ’s resurrection is the most revolutionary event in history—it changes our understanding of life, death, and what lies beyond.” For believers, Jesus’ resurrection inaugurates a new era—one where death does not have the final word, offering hope of eternal life in communion with God.
Jesus’ Resurrection: The First of Its Kind
It’s important to note that Jesus’ resurrection wasn’t the first recorded in Scripture. There are examples of others who were raised from the dead—such as the widow’s son in 1 Kings 17:17-24, the son of the Shunammite woman in 2 Kings 4:32-37, and Lazarus in John 11. However, Jesus’ resurrection was unique: He was the first to be raised never to die again. Unlike those previous resurrections, which involved individuals returning to mortal life and eventually dying again, Jesus’ resurrection signifies triumph over death itself. He rose in a glorified, immortal body—one that cannot decay or be subject to death.
Today, Jesus is alive, seated at the right hand of the Father, interceding for those who believe in Him (Romans 8:34). His ongoing presence and intercession are central to Christian faith. Because He lives, believers have the assurance that they, too, will live beyond physical death. “Because I live,” Jesus declared in John 14:19, “you also will live.” That truth—that Jesus is alive today and forever—remains the heartbeat of Easter. It’s what makes the season truly joyful: the assurance that death is not the end, but a doorway to eternal life.

The Impact of Easter on Humanity
Easter’s significance extends beyond theological doctrine; it offers a profound hope that resonates deeply within the human spirit. His resurrection is the cornerstone of our faith, our assurance that we too shall live eternally. The truth that Jesus lives is what fuels our joy in the Easter season—it’s the message that transforms despair into hope and death into life.
The resurrection is the promise that no matter what we face—sickness, loss, trials—Jesus is alive and working on our behalf. Through the Holy Spirit, He empowers us to walk in victory and declare His goodness. This is the reason we celebrate with joy, because our Savior, Jesus Christ, is risen, alive forevermore, and interceding for us at the throne of grace.
