Dear Friends,
On Wednesday night, my husband and I were taken aback by the heartbreaking news of a military helicopter and passenger plane colliding midair over the Potomac River. Our hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones in this tragic incident, and we are praying for God’s comfort during this incredibly difficult time—He is the ultimate source of solace. We’re also holding in our prayers the first responders who worked tirelessly through the freezing night and continue their efforts in what has sadly become a recovery mission, as it seems there are no survivors and send our prayers and support to those who are grieving such profound loss.
Romans 12:15 tells us to “weep with those who weep.” This brings to mind Jesus standing at Lazarus’ tomb. Martha and Mary expressed their sorrow, saying, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” Jesus reassured Martha that her brother would rise again; He knew what was to come. Yet, when He saw their tears and the sorrow surrounding Him, the Bible says, “Jesus wept.”
I am so thankful that our Lord and Savior is deeply familiar with our grief and sorrow.
